Sharp 903 review
Reviews The race to push ever more pixels into a mobile phone handset continues, with no finishing line in sight. Large, at 61mm (2.4 inches), its 240x320 pixels and 262K colours are bright and clear and show plenty of information.

720p
Reviews 720 progressive -- one of two currently used formats designated as high-definition television in the ATSC DTV standard, this technology comprises 720 vertical pixels and 1,280 horizontal pixels. The p stands for progressive, as opposed to...

Microsoft LifeCam VX-7000 review
Reviews Like Logitech's QuickCam Pro 9000, the £45 Microsoft LifeCam VX-7000 features a 2-megapixel sensor, but if you use any resolution above 640x480 pixels, the resulting video is choppy. The camera's 2-megapixel sensor struggled when recording video at...

Olympus FE-300 review
Reviews As you try to cram more and more pixels onto a small sensor, problems like noise tend to overtake the picture. Conversely, if you put fewer pixels on a large sensor, like the 6-megapixel Canon EOS 350D digital SLR, photos tend to come out looking...

Samsung PS50P96 review
Reviews Their pixels don't generate any light and so a light is projected from behind them. Plasma TVs, on the other hand, use pixels that glow, so creating black is as simple as turning the pixels off. When it comes to a movie experience, having faithful...

Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 review
Reviews That goes double for camcorders which record directly to hard disk or DVD, since they need sufficient pixels to compress into a decent image. The resolution of the hard disk-based Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 -- 680,000 pixels -- falls into the...

Best hi-def camcorders
Reviews The display resolution of hi-def video footage is either 1,280x720 pixels, or 1,920x1,080 pixels, which is higher than the standard definition resolutions on current television and DVD. Hi-def video has a greater number of pixels crammed into each...

'Full HD' resolution LCD TVs
Reviews Most recent HD Ready LCDs feature a WXGA resolution of 1,366x768 pixels. To display 1080i signals in their entirety, you'll need a screen with a resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels, which has been coined 'Full HD' by the marketing men.

resolution
Reviews A monitor's resolution refers to the number of pixels in the entire screen. For example, a resolution of 1,280x1,024 means that 1,024 lines are drawn from the top to the bottom of the screen, and each of these lines is made up of 1,280 separate...

Sony Bravia KDL-S32A12U review
Reviews The W-XGA resolution of 1366x768 pixels will support high-def signals of 720p up to a maximum 1080i, while the inclusion of an HDMI digital input completes the criteria. With high-definition content looming on the horizon, the screen features a...

Sony KE-P42M1 review
Reviews It has a remarkably low resolution of 852x480 pixels, omits a PC input, and is very poorly designed by Sony's standards. Sadly, 852x480 pixels isn't a typo: Sony's plasma has one of the lowest resolutions we've seen.

Creative Live Cam Optia AF review
Reviews You can capture video at up to 30 frames per second and up to a resolution of 1,600x1,200 pixels. Another small glitch we found with the software was finding a way to record video at a resolution higher than 640x480 pixels.

Sony Handycam DCR-SR40 review
Reviews Plus, you can record as many as 9,999 fine quality JPEG images, but since the camera uses only 340,000 pixels to capture video or stills, don't expect to get decent 100x150mm (4x6-inch) prints from this camcorder.
