Features to consider
Reviews In some countries you can get handsets that support mobile TV and let you tune in on the go. A quad-band phone also gives you access to networks in countries like the USA, which operate at 850MHz. A tri-band phone lets you access the 900MHz...

Navman iCN 720 review
Reviews These are essentially the same device, the £549 iCN 750 coming with maps for 17 Western European countries pre-installed and ready for use; the £399 iCN 720, reviewed here, has the same maps pre-installed, but only the UK ones are available to use...

Tangent Quattro MKII review
Reviews At the time of writing, it lists just over 10,000 radio stations from 270 countries. You do have to scroll all the way through the alphabetised list of countries to find the UK though, rather than going backwards from 'A' listings.

Samsung L74 Wide review
Reviews Only install the guides to the countries you plan to visit, though -- the World Tour Guide can eat up a significant chunk of the L74 Wide's 450MB internal storage and you can't install it on a memory card.

Zepto Nox A15 review
Reviews This Danish laptop-maker has grown since 2002 to become the self-proclaimed largest local manufacturer of laptop PCs in Europe, supplying machines to 19 countries. Don't worry if you haven't heard of Zepto -- most people haven't.

PAL (Phase Alternation Line)
Reviews The television broadcast standard used in the UK and in many European countries. This standard specifies broadcasts of 625 horizontal lines of resolution per second, nearly 20 per cent more than the US standard, NTSC, of 525 lines.

Medion GoPal PNA470 review
Reviews Street level maps for 32 countries are provided, with UK data pre-loaded on a 1GB SD card. With TomTom dominating the in-car GPS market, newcomers like Medion have to pile on the features to get a look in.

TomTom One XL review
Reviews Route calculation (even between European countries) is swift, and route management is excellent -- you can review routes as a text list, images of key junctions or a fly-through, and add waypoints or rest stops easily.

Sony Nav-U NV-U92 review
Reviews The provision of European maps covering 21 countries in the U92 should suffice for all but the most adventurous drivers (the cheaper U82 covers just the UK and Ireland). Sony was late to the GPS market, but is finally bringing its trademark style...

Sagem my300C review
Reviews It's only dual-band so it won't work in certain countries and there's only 3MB of on-board memory, with no option to expand. Sagem is synonymous with cheap and cheerful mobile phones that look and feel a little plasticky, to say the least.

Toshiba TS608 review
Reviews It's only dual band though, so it won't work in certain countries, and the contacts search system is among the slowest we have ever tried. The TS608 is a stylish, slim phone that looks great on the outside but suffers from a lack of style on the...

Motorola Motorazr Maxx V6 review
Reviews The Maxx is a quad-band handset, so you'll be able to use it in most countries around the world, but it's primarily designed for use on 3G networks and so features dual cameras for video calling. Motorola has become the Stock, Aitken and Waterman...

TomTom GO 910 review
Reviews TomTom sells an RDS-TMC traffic receiver to provide access to radio broadcasts, which are free in many countries. One of the latest trends in satellite navigation systems is the use of wide screens. The first example was the Navman iCN 720, and...

Samsung i7 review
Reviews Some slightly stilted translations, and the number of entries crammed into the Asian countries, reveal the origins of the camera. It doesn't end there, though -- a number of other devices have been bundled into the i7's broad-shouldered but snake...

Sony Ericsson W595 Walkman review
Reviews If you travel you'll be happy to hear that the quad band W595 will function in all countries you visit. With upgraded specs, can this year's model do justice to last year's? It's on sale now SIM-free for around £225, or is free on a contract.Design
