Hitachi DZ-MV580E review
Reviews In contrast, MiniDV camcorders compress video at a fixed rate of 25 Mbps -- storing over four times more picture data than a DVD camcorder. This is because DVD camcorders compress video using MPEG-2, which is a fairly lossy format.

Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 review
Reviews That goes double for camcorders which record directly to hard disk or DVD, since they need sufficient pixels to compress into a decent image. Though most digital cameras produced today have sufficient resolution to make the spec itself almost a non...

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
Reviews You can choose how much to compress a JPEG file, but the smaller you make it, the more colour information is lost. A format developed by the Joint Photographic Experts Group for storing and compressing high-quality colour and greyscale images (.jpg...

Sony ST-SDB900 review
Reviews Though DAB is still at the mercy of radio engineers who love to compress -- not to mention the low bit rate of UK DAB broadcasts -- the ST-SDB900 compares very well to other tuners in its class. It built Japan's first transistor radio back in...

Toshiba SD-350E review
Reviews DivX can compress DVD movies down to much smaller size, and the Dr DivX software can be used to make the process easier. The problem lies in screen resolutions -- most flat screens are much higher res than DVD.
