Canon Digital IXUS 50 review
Reviews The remaining five range from the mundane (Portrait, Night Snapshot, Kids & Pets and Indoor) to the unusual: a Digital Macro option that uses the zoom lever to expand a user-selectable portion of the image to fill the frame.

How do digital cameras differ from film?
Reviews This chip determines the frame size and the light sensitivity of the camera. Film: Uses film, which comes in various frame sizes and different sensitivities to light. Some cameras have LCDs that flip out or twist, to help you frame difficult shots

Casio Exilim EX-Z200 review
Reviews The Z200 has an extremely solid metal frame. Casio was one of the first companies to offer a face recognition system that allows you to record and prioritise family and friends' faces to pick them out in the frame.

Canon PowerShot A640 review
Reviews Unfortunately, the 10-megapixel shooter's burst mode was disappointing -- we could shoot only 44 shots over a 34.5-second period, giving us a sluggish frame rate of 1.3 shots per second. You can flip and twist it to help frame odd-angled shots or...

Nikon Coolpix S52c review
Reviews The S52c packs a gigantic 76mm (3-inch) LCD screen in a metal frame. One-handed shooting is important on cameras such as this, with the lens at the top left, because two-handed shooting increases the likelihood of fingers straying into the frame.

Toshiba Regza 40ZF355D review
Reviews Luckily for us, Toshiba doesn't seem to mind, and has taken its high-end Z series LCD panel and installed it into a teeny, tiny frame. The Toshiba aims to reduce motion problems by showing each film frame five times.

Casio Exilim EX-Z19 review
Reviews The raised screen bezel also interfered with the buttons placed directly to its right, which are too small and flat to the frame for clumsy, larger thumbs. The Z19 is no exception, with a brick-like frame completely free of flex.

Kodak Zi6 review
Reviews True, the £130 Zi6 records video in 1,280x720-pixel resolution at both 30 frames per second and 60fps -- 720p resolution -- which technically qualifies it as an HD camcorder, but many factors go into creating an image, not just a CMOS sensor...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W170 review
Reviews The W170 comes in cherry red or silver with a brushed metal effect to the frame. Clever subject tracking follows a face as it moves around the frame, allowing you to recompose your images. Our first impression of the the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W170 is...

Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z77 review
Reviews There's no flex in the frame and the battery cover seems sturdy. MPEG-4 H.264 format and optimised to Web-friendly size and frame rate, are predictably poor quality. You can zoom while filming video but it is only a digital zoom.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX37 review
Reviews It might be the long-range superzooms that grab the headlines, but most of the time your problem is fitting the whole subject into the frame rather than not getting close enough to your subject in the first place.

Sony Handycam DCR-SR290E review
Reviews Plus, with the LCD as the only way to frame your shots, a joystick could prevent the buildup of fingerprints on the screen. Either way, if you're a finder fan, you'll immediately have one strike against the DCR-SR290E, priced around £525, which...

Canon Digital IXUS 75 review
Reviews The flash options are just on or off, and red-eye reduction can only be applied manually in playback mode by moving a frame over the subject's eyes. The IXUS 75's two-tone black and silver styling slashes diagonally across the frame, and looks...

Pentax Optio A30 review
Reviews The A30 has an unpretentious air, with the only design flourish being a curved silver trim on the matte black frame. Processing is much slower at more than 2.5 seconds between shots, while in continuous mode the A30 manages 1 frame per second.

Nikon Coolpix L3 review
Reviews Fortunately, its light frame weighs less than 170g even with an SD card and two AA batteries, making it comfortable to carry in a jacket or small bag. We managed to take 10 shots in 7.6 seconds in burst mode, getting a frame rate of a little more...
