Dolby Volume: No more inaudible speech and deafening music
Crave Dolby's Volume technology is setting out to fix some of the problems. Dolby Volume is designed to help reduce the difference in volume between different sound sources and make everything more audible.

iPod remotes: there's something in the air
Crave Otherwise the volume keeps changing as the player bumps around in our pockets. It consists of a receiver that plugs into the top of your iPod and a keyfob style remote with Play/Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind, Volume Up and Volume Down buttons.

Southwing SH305: Press and call
Crave It has the standard volume up and volume down buttons and comes with three changeable covers. Southwing, a relatively small Bluetooth headset company, has sent Crave the SH305, which has a cute new feature that allows you to make a call by tapping...

Drobo: Automated data robot
Crave These are treated as a single large volume you can access with your Mac or PC. Obviously, adding a disk adds more capacity to the existing 'single' volume. Data storage is usually as dull as ditchwater, but our ears pricked up when we heard about...

Logic3 Jivebox: Hands-on with our first cube
Crave The only controls sit on the front and include an off button (we love a good off button) and volume controls. Bass is clear and fairly powerful too, though a little more oomph would let it better match the volume reached by the mids and highs.

DABabolical machine: Yamaha CRX-M170
Crave This sub is apocalyptic in its intent -- who would dare turn it up to full volume? We tested it at low volume with the trepidation of scientists who will switch on the potentially universe-destroying CERN particle accelerator in Geneva later next...

Join the Borg: Saitek A-350 wireless headphones
Crave We like the way it has an up volume on one earpiece and a down volume on the other -- that's smart, as fiddling with a dual-direction control on one ear would be very difficult, but unless there's something about the shape of your head which means...

Logic3 i-Station Traveller: Big sound, small package
Crave The i-Station Traveller is freestanding, and pumps out music at a decent volume without losing much definition. Also, it's powered by four AAA batteries, so the overall volume does get pretty useful. Portable speakers can be terribly disappointing.

Photos: Hands-on with the iRiver T7 Stix
Crave The volume controls are more traditional buttons, mounted on the top and bottom of the T7, and in parts of the menu double up as navigational buttons as well. On the top and bottom edges sit volume buttons, also doubling up as navigational controls...

Parrot DS1120 Bluetooth speakers: Wire-free music
Crave The controls are touch-sensitive, and there was a moment of slight embarrassment when we were testing them when we accidentally turned them to full volume in the middle of the office. The sound quality is generally good, but distorts at high volume.

S-Master Home Audio System: MP3 phone hi-fi
Crave But like a good featherweight boxer, it packs a mean punch for its size, and its sound quality and volume were perfect for the small office we tried it in. Like a typical podcessory, you simply slot your Sony Ericsson phone in the speaker system...

Testing Windows Vista SP1
Crave Volume licence customers (enterprises) will receive an integrated DVD media package for installation on new PCs. Microsoft now allows encryption support for volumes other than the bootable volume. When transferring files from one folder to another...

Sennheiser RS130: high wire artists
Crave If you're in the office and drop the headphones to sit round your neck, the volume knob usually catches your shoulder, sending the volume up to maximum in the process. And despite being battery powered, these things go loud -- beyond 75 per cent...

Out of the box with the Intempo Digital iDS-01
Crave There are two small silver plus or minus buttons at the front, (we're guessing volume controls) and two shining owl-eye speakers. We hit play and crank up the volume by pressing the right-hand Plus button.
