Crave Talk: Why do Euro PS3 owners get a raw deal?
Crave European gamers are used to getting shafted by console manufacturers. Historically, our Japanese and American counterparts get their games before we do, pay less for the privilege and don't have to put up with black on-screen borders.

And out of the darkness there came: Adobe Lightroom
Crave Apple wowed digital photographers earlier in the year with its lightbox software, Aperture, but sub-par RAW conversion algorithms meant that few were persuaded to part with Photoshop. Lightroom is specifically designed to deal with RAW files -- the...

Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III and EOS 40D dSLRs: 21 not out
Crave The DIGIC III processor handles up to 75 large JPEGs (17 in RAW) without hesitation, repetition or deviation. File sizes are correspondingly corpulent -- Canon mentions 100MB uncompressed 16-bit TIFFs, so lord knows how big the raw files will be.

Sony Alpha 700: New prosumer dSLR
Crave Under the bonnet there's a high-speed BIONZ processor that captures raw footage. Noise reduction is available on raw footage to cut noise before the image is compressed and encoded. Apple may have whipped up the hype last night, but in the camera...

Apple launches Aperture and new G5s: Let's feast!
Crave This is called Aperture and, as any photographer worth their flash bulb will have guessed, it's a tool for storing and manipulating RAW digital camera files. Although Photoshop has had RAW file support for a while now, this has always had the feel...

Photos: Hands-on with the Samsung GX-10
Crave It shoots JPEGs and raw footage, with a dedicated raw button on the front for quick switching between formats. Ah, Christmas. A time of goodwill; a time of rejoicing in the simple pleasures of human company; a time of love.

Hands-on with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 superzoom
Crave The DMC-FZ18 shoots raw footage, as well as the option to shoot raw and JPEGs together. Crave looks back on being 18 with fondness. We could fit into 28-inch jeans, listen to Blur on cassette tape, and didn't even have an email address.

Nikon launches D60, P60 and new Coolpix compacts
Crave It won't offer all the functionality of the software included with the camera, or Nikon's optional Capture NX software, but it's a good option to have if you don't want to shoot raw+JPG, which can eat up great gouts of memory on your SD card.

Photos: Hands on at the Olympus E-3 launch
Crave The E-3 manages a half-decent 5fps sequential shooting, but more interesting is a buffed-up buffer allowing you to capture 19 raw images in the blink of an eye. The E-3 shoots raw and JPEG files, and records to CompactFlash or, unusually for a dSLR...

Mutant MP3 players: Digital music goes all superhero
Crave The LCD is 64mm (2.5 inches) across and the photo viewer is happy to exhibit JPEG, TIFF, BMP, TXT and -- brilliantly -- RAW. RAW is the format of choice for professional digital photographers. Someone's switched on the Batlight and not one...

Nikon Coolpix P6000: Dripping with features
Crave The Coolpix P6000, which replaces last year's P5100, is stuffed full of interesting features, such as built-in GPS, an Ethernet connection, wireless flash and a new Vista-compatible raw format. Finally, with the P6000, Nikon introduces the NRW raw...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18: Supermassivezoom
Crave On top of all that, the DMC-FZ18 shoots raw footage. Panasonic has announced its latest Lumix digital camera, the 8.1-megapixel DMC-FZ18. In a crazy mixed-up world where nothing much makes sense any more, least of all technology naming, what does...

Apple Aperture 1.5: This time it's good
Crave But the first release of Apple's digital darkroom, though visually thrilling, was processor-intensive to the point of oppression, and was undermined by a flawed raw conversion method that, in our experience, gave photos odd little multicoloured...

Lugging home the Toshiba Qosmio
Crave It seemed deceptively light for the first few steps, but our hands were red raw by the time we got it home. This is one heavy beast - not surprising when you consider that Toshiba have packed a personal video recorder, TV tuner and PC into a laptop.

Crave Talk: Has Tesco gone too far?
Crave Now, when you traverse the aisles in search of baked beans, sanitary towels and two-for-one packs of raw mince, you can grab yourself a copy of Tesco Office (£20) -- an alternative to the almost de-facto standard that is Microsoft Office -- or...
