Cooler than Vanilla Ice: the 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro
Crave Notable inclusions in the new design are the 9-pin FireWire 800 and 4-pin FireWire 400 ports -- putting paid to any speculation that FireWire was being phased out. Hey Apple, quit beating Microsoft while it's down!

OneTouch III: This time it's Terabyte
Crave It couldn't be simpler to use: just plug it into your PC or Mac via USB or FireWire, and store all those films of pterodactyls, terraformed planets and Terry Thomas with ease. The new drive comes in 600GB (£410) or 1TB (£684) capacity and connects...

Formac Disk Mini 120GB: Jong-sized HD video transporter
Crave If you use the FireWire connector (over the USB) you're in for a special treat -- it's blisteringly swift. FireWire is still our interface of choice for sustained high-speed throughput. The only disappointment here is that the drive is FireWire 400...

Top ten obsolete ports
Crave For some reason, despite the incredibly shaky start USB had -- we can surely all remember the near certainty that plugging in anything in the early days of USB 1.1 would result in either a blue screen of death or some other virtual plume of smoke...

Hideous kinky: Canon MVX850i
Crave The camcorder comes with a FireWire port which gives you total control over how you edit your footage. Whoa, check out the pixels on the MVX850i's CCD. There are 800k of the little suckers jittering about, turning the light and colour of our world...

Apple iPod Video: Crave's hands-on with the second coming
Crave This is the most expensive iPod available, yet the FireWire cable, dock and mains charger from the previous model have been ditched. FireWire had to go to keep the size down -- apparently the module is much bigger than the one used for USB.

Mini goes double decker
Crave You could concievably daisy chain these firewire/USB drives until you had an attractive aluminum column of storage -- a totem pole for the 21st Century. What's this? Two stacked Mac Minis? No, you fool -- it's one Mac Mini stacked on a 400GB...

Mustek R580M: DVD/HDD Recorder for £200
Crave Hey, it's even got an i.Link/FireWire input too -- something that the DMREH50 couldn't even be bothered with. We loved Panasonic's DMREH50, but then this Mustek DVD/HDD recorder landed on our desk with almost exactly the same specifications.

LaCie's Bigger Disk gets… bigger
Crave It's bigger than the average hard disk, it's a disk and it has an extremely fast Firewire 800 interface, hence Bigger Disk Extreme. After our various gripes about product names, we were pleased to discover the LaCie Bigger Disk Extreme, in...

Fresh fruit: New Apple iBook G4 and Mac Minis
Crave The Mini includes built-in Ethernet, modem, DVI, USB and FireWire. Big White has unleashed new iBooks (pictured) and new Mac Minis. The original Mini embodied the ideals of modern gadget erotica: it was small, fast and fun to ogle.

Western Digital My Book Pro Edition II: £399 terabyte drive
Crave The My Book Pro Edition II is surprisingly good value for money at 2.5GB per quid and is FireWire 800-compatible, which should give you a maximum transfer rate of 800Mbps -- considerably more than USB 2's 480Mbps.

JVC Everio GZ-MC500: dirty pretty thing
Crave It's so sleek and cinematic, you can imagine leaving this camcorder on your desk and returning to find it with a lit cigarette pursed in its FireWire port. JVC have pushed the envelope so far this time they're scaring us.

It's all white: Asus W5000
Crave The keen-eyed will notice that the Asus provides a FireWire port. Anyone who loves the look of Apple's iBook range, but can't be lured from the grey fastness of their PC, may find solace in the Asus W5000.

Apple says "That's not a knife. This is a knife": MacBook Pro
Crave There's also an ExpressCard slot and FireWire 400. It's been a while since Apple could claim its laptops were the fastest on the strip, but with the transition from IBM to Intel chips, the new Apple MacBook Pro is one of the first widely available...

Dell Dimension 5150c: The incredible shrinking PC
Crave Its semi-automatic front panel hides a DVD rewriter, 7-in-1 memory card reader, and USB and FireWire ports. The Dimension 5150c is tiny -- pictures just don't do it justice. On its arrival, its petite proportions led us to believe Dell may have...
