Microsoft has announced that Xbox Live, the online gaming service for the Xbox 360 console, will offer high-definition movies and TV shows to download.

Several US TV neworks and movie studios have signed up. CBS will make TV shows such as CSI, Survivor and Numb3rs available to Xbox Live members.

Xbox Live users will be able to download movies such as Nacho Libre, Patriot Games and V for Vendetta for two-week rentals. Pricing has not yet been set.

In addition to content from CBS, episodes of TV shows such as South Park, Friends and Babylon 5, as well as many others, will be available.

On the Xbox Live video marketplace, members will be able to choose from downloads of movies, TV shows, games and more.
