Apple is releasing new MacBook Pros powered by 2.16GHz or 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo chips. Apple says the new 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo model is up to 39 per cent speedier than the previous MacBook Pro with a 2.16GHz Intel Duo processor.

The 17-inch Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro starts at £1,899.

It comes with a 160GB hard drive that can be upgraded to 200GB. Its 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM can be upgraded to 3GB.

The machine also comes with a FireWire 800 port and a double-layer burning SuperDrive.

The 15-inch Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro starts at £1,349 for a model with a 2.13GHz chip. The 15-inch MacBook Pro with a 2.33GHz chip starts at £1,699.

Apple says its two new MacBook Pro laptops are 25mm thick. The 15-inch model weighs about 2.5kg; the 17-inch model weighs 3kg.

Apple is pushing its iSight camera feature on the new Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros. The camera sits at the top of the monitor to make video-conferencing easy.
