Here are some things that aren't dead: Jeff Goldblum and plasma TVs. Of course, if you're reading this in 2050 there's a good chance that Jeff Goldblum is now dead, but if it's 2050, why on Earth are you reading about a plasma from 41 years ago? That's like us reading about a black and white TV in a little wooden cabinet. Anyway, how is the future? Are there hoverboards yet? Is 3D TV still a dismal waste of time? Please, do tell us all about your exciting futuristic lives via the comments section -- it's been fitted with a flux capacitor which should enable your thoughts to transcend the usual rules of linear time. So, as we were saying, plasma isn't dead, despite rumours to the contrary, and LG's 50PS6000 should help persuade you of this unassailable fact.

Apple appears to be getting serious about Apple TV.

The company's link between the computer and the big-screen television has long been considered a "hobby" in the eyes of Apple chief executive Steve Jobs, at least when viewed against major projects like the Mac, the iPod and the iPhone. But signs have been growing that Apple is thinking about making a more significant investment in Apple TV.

The most recent tip was a survey that Apple conducted online on Tuesday, which has since disappeared from the company's Web site but was captured by AppleInsider. In that survey, Apple asked Apple TV owners a number of questions about the sources of video they are watching on the device, as well as asking owners to describe the one thing they would change about the device.

Sharp has obviously decided that new tellies aren't the order of the (Valentine's) day when a new lick of paint will do. So, with the greeting-card industry's favourite 24 hours looming, the
Sharp Aquos LC-19D1E
high-definition television is getting a new red edition.

Going red is a good thing. LG may have annoyed the heck out of us when it turned Scarlet, but long-time Craveologists will have noticed that red became our new accent colour in CNET UK's recent facelift. We like the LC-19D1E, describing it in our review as: "A great all-round performer at an affordable price... It's the best-value small-screen TV we've seen yet."

The LC-19D1E is a mere 19 inches corner to corner, but does boast a 176° viewing angle and 1,366x768-pixel resolution -- perfect for catching up with our current favourite redhead, Mad Men's razor-tongued seductive secretary Joan Holloway.

The LT-42WX70 forms the centrepiece of a modular home entertainment system with one eye on the photographer, designed to give you the freedom to move all the kit around as you want it. JVC calls it 'layout free', which doesn't quite make sense, but we'll let that go.

JVC reckon the WX70 will be perfect for the dSLR camera user, with a DynaPix HD engine under the bonnet giving accurate colour reproduction, and a wider colour gamut than most. This means it displays more colours -- achieving 100 per cent sRGB and HDTV, and 96 per cent Adobe RGB colour spaces, fact fans -- so should give more accurate representation of your pictures. JVC claims you will get perfect colour consistency between camera and screen, so the image you capture will be what you see on your TV.

The WX70 can be used as a monitor as well as a TV for those with an interest in photography. In fact, it's at the heart of a modular range of equipment. From March you will be able to mix and match telly, speaker bar and tuner. Later in the year there'll be a tuner with a hard-disk drive, and a tuner with a DVD player. Meanwhile freesat, Blu-ray and Internet-enabled tuners are on the roadmap.
