During the day, we're mild-mannered tech bloggers, wearing glasses and looking moody in our vast, yet innocuous, Crave penthouse. But at night, we fight crime. We take on the persona of a creature of the night, black, terrible, shadowy -- we become the Ghost Pigeon.

To protect our loved ones, we have to keep our secret identity super-duper seekrit. That means hiding our calls and texts to the police commissioner, especially when we send him MMS messages with videos of us collaring a miscreant.

Luckily, just for people like us there's Ghost Pigeon software, a secret-phone-within-a-phone, which will hide your texts, MMS messages and calls.

Ghost Pigeon is invisible on the phone -- there's no icon in the menu. Instead, you launch the application by typing in a password. We installed Ghost Pigeon on our Nokia N95 8GB, and although it's visible in the list of installed apps, its name is well disguised.

On its various digital channels, ITV shows three hours of Jeremy Kyle every day. That means there are 15 hours worth of glorious chav-baiting each week that we can't watch because we're busy writing terrific stories here. So what we need is some sort of device that can store massive amounts of non-ironic velour tracksuits and chunky gold identity bracelets. Luckily, Sagem has come to the rescue with a 500GB, twin-tuner Freeview+ PVR.

The ability to record the very scrapings of society's barrel is just the start. Sagem claims the 67500T is also eco-friendly, which means we'll still have a planet for people to argue on in 100 years.

Today is the 37th anniversary of the first Gay Pride march in England. More relevantly to our concerns, it's also the day new EU regulations come into effect that could slash the cost of using your mobile phone while abroad by more than half.
We have to lean out the kitchen window to get a signal in our lead-lined bunker of a flat, so we're interested to hear that Vodafone is releasing a signal booster for people who live in similar mobile-phone notspots.

On 1 July, Vodafone will be the first European network to launch a femtocell -- the Vodafone Access Gateway. Femtocells are modem-sized devices that plug into your home broadband line, boosting the mobile-phone signal in your house.

The Vodafone Access Gateway will allow four simultaneous voice calls at a time, and will support the whole range of Vodafone services on your phone. You'll have to register the mobile numbers that you want to use with the gateway, lest your neighbours attempt to piggyback on your femtocell.

But you'll have to pay for it. You can rent an Access Gateway from £5 per month, or make a one-off purchase for £160. You can also get one as part of a phone contract, starting at £15 per month. You'll also have to pay for, and maintain, your own broadband connection.

HTC has announced a new front end for its Android mobile phones. HTC Sense, which allows you to customise your phone and aggregate your social media, will debut on the HTC Hero, also known as the T-Mobile G1 Touch.

The Hero, with its distinctive curve towards the bottom, features assisted GPS, a digital compass, 3.5mm stereo headset jack and 5-megapixel camera with autofocus. A dedicated search button lets you search Twitter as well as information stored on the phone. Data is saved on microSD cards.

Support for Microsoft Exchange is included out of the box. We're
waiting to hear from T-Mobile how this has been achieved, but we're
guessing that it's through a pre-installed, third-party application, as
the Android operating system doesn't support this natively. As current Exchange apps
on the Android Market tend to be paid-for, and some are of
dubious quality, it should save you money in the long run.

The handset includes a gravity sensor. If you think about it, though, every phone has one of those: drop it into concrete and you'll quickly see that, yep, gravity is still there.

LiveJournal blogger HappyWaffle (real name Kevin) recently posted a great story about how he purportedly used Apple's MobileMe service to track down his iPhone, which was stolen while he was at a bar. By using a laptop with a wireless data card, he and his friends used the 'Find My iPhone' service to figure out where it was and managed to get it back from the person who had taken it. They even used Google Translate to alert the thief (in multiple languages) that they would call the police if the device was not returned.

As good as the story is, much of it relies on iPhone owners having certain settings flipped on, as well as the person who has the phone not knowing the right ones to turn off. For one, they can disable all of the MobileMe features by simply yanking the SIM card out or deleting the MobileMe account from the phone.

Now they have an answer -- sort of.

The company's goal is to release the SDK by the end of summer.

Communications minister Lord Carter has put the idea of mobile coverage on the London Underground back on the government agenda -- only months after it emerged a planned Tube mobile trial had been shelved indefinitely.

Back in March, CNET UK's sister site silicon.com revealed Transport for London (TfL) had quietly dropped plans for a six-month mobile Tube trial. The pilot, which was to have considered whether it would be technically and commercially viable for coverage to be extended across the entire Underground network, was shelved after TfL said it had not received any commercially "credible" proposals from the market.

However, in the government's Digital Britain report, unveiled on Tuesday, Lord Carter said there is a need to address "notable gaps" in mobile coverage on transport networks.

Apple issued a warning earlier this week that it doesn't support iTunes synchronisation with "non-Apple digital media players" and that future versions of the software may put an end to any such capability. The announcement was dripping with so much passive aggression it was obvious it was directed at the Palm Pre, which shows up as an iPod when connected to iTunes and allows you to sync non-DRM media to the smart phone.
